Making a difference with Studio@Deyes – School Governors

Are you passionate about the importance of delivering an education which enables all young people to achieve their full potential?

Do you want to help deliver the best possible education for pupils of Studio@Deyes?

Can you see yourself acting as a ‘Critical Friend’ to the School Senior Management Team, helping to create positive solutions for school improvement?

Are you able to attend 2-4 meetings per term (usually Weds mornings)?

In return you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a real difference to the lives of the students at Studio@Deyes. You will have the opportunity to use and improve a range of highly transferable skills, work with new people and apply your knowledge and experience to benefit the local community.

What do governors actually do?

School governors represent the largest volunteer force in the country. They work alongside the Headteacher and the school’s senior leadership team to set strategic direction, monitor school performance and ensure the school’s budget is well spent. Governors do not manage the day to day running of the school but they do set the framework which should ensure the school is operating effectively.

Who can be a governor?

Anyone from any background who is aged 18 or over and has around 20 hours per term to spare is welcome to apply. Governors are ordinary people drawn from all areas of society. The most effective governing bodies are those that have a mix of experiences from different cultures and age groups, and a range of everyday skills from personal life as well as work settings. The most important things which any volunteer can bring to the role of governor are time, commitment and enthusiasm. No previous experience of being a School Governor is necessary – training on the role is available.
